WizChinese

Serving Palo Alto Chinese Community

WizChinese is an organization serving Chinese families who live in Palo Alto. Our mission is to facilitate the integration of Chinese immigrants with local communities through organizing community building events, partnering with local non-profit organizations, and sharing information and experiences.

Palo Alto Chinese Parents’ Club (PACPC), operating under WizChinese since 2014, provides a platform for the Chinese parents to form strong connections through its social and educational events, school involvement, and resource sharing.

Through its flagship program of the annual Palo Alto Chinese New Year Fair, first inaugurated in 2016, WizChinese promotes cultural exchange and friendship among residents of different backgrounds and contributes to the vibrancy and health of our diverse community.

WizChinese is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and was founded in February 2014 by Palo Alto residents Debra Cen and Amy Yang. Since its inception, WizChinese has been an active contributor and partner in the community.

Fighting Against Coronavirus

To fight the Coronavirus pandemic, WizChinese started a fundraising campaign in February initially for supporting Wuhan doctors and nurses. With the fast recovery of Wuhan from the pandemic and the urgent need of masks in our community, WizChinese repurposed the fund to purchase masks from China to donate to our community. In addition, WizChinese also encouraged the Chinese community to donate masks directly to their neighbors or through WizChinese for distributing to our community.

By May 10, we have raised $5800, and spent $3800 to purchase 6000 surgical masks and donated $2000 in check to PTAC’s COVID-19 Relief Fund. We also received 5900 surgical masks and R820 KN95. That generates a total of 12,720 masks for donation.

So far, WizChinese has distributed the masks to the following organizations or public health facilities:

Ravenwood Family Health Center in East Palo Alto,
Palo Alto Medical Foundation,
PTAC,
Palo Alto University Rotary Club,
EPA Police Department,
LifeMoves,
Sequoias Living Senior Center

Current and Upcoming Events

In the past four years, Palo Alto Chinese New Year (CNY) fair has become a popular community building event. Every year, all proceeds of the Fair (~$7000/year) were donated to PAUSD. This year the CNY Fair was cancelled due to coronavirus outbreak. It started from Wuhan and spread to all over the world including our own community. WizChinese/Palo Alto Chinese Parent Club started this campaign initially for raising our annual school donation fund and for supporting Wuhan doctors and nurses to fight Coronavirus.

With the fast development of Coronavirus outbreak in US, many families in our community will suffer from lost wages and high medical bills due to slow down of business, school closure or illness. So new funds raised in this campaign will be donated to PTA Council to provide relief to hard hit PAUSD families.

For this campaign, you have three ways to give: 1) GIVE Cash; 2) SELL Goods, Services or Experience; 3) SHOP Donated Items. Let’s bring our community together to fight against Coronavirus!
